Asilia African Honey: A Tanzanian Youth-Led Enterprise Buzzing with Success
Empowering Youth and Conserving Biodiversity through Beekeeping:
Asilia African Honey is not just another brand; it’s a proud Tanzanian venture under Saria African Honey Producers that embodies a powerful vision. What started as a way for its founder to earn a living has blossomed into a shining example of youth empowerment, sustainability, and biodiversity conservation in Tanzania.
With a strong commitment to ethical and organic beekeeping, Asilia African Honey has a straightforward mission: to showcase the unique flavors of Tanzanian honey while ensuring a sustainable value chain that upholds ethical practices and protects the environment. Today, this company stands as a vibrant social enterprise, boasting a growing online presence and an inspiring success story—much of which can be attributed to the support from the International Trade Centre’s (ITC) Beekeeping Value Chain (BEVAC) project.
Unlocking Growth Through the BEVAC Project
Through ITC’s BEVAC project, Asilia African Honey gained access to a series of transformative interventions that have significantly strengthened its position in both local and international markets:
Branding and Marketing Training and Coaching: Asilia African Honey underwent intensive branding and marketing training, which revolutionized its business approach. With new skills in content creation and digital engagement, the company has optimized its online presence across platforms such as Facebook, Twitter (X), Instagram, and LinkedIn, translating visibility into real sales.
Packaging Excellence: Packaging training equipped Asilia African Honey with the know-how to implement effective labeling and sustainable, regulation-compliant packaging. This has been pivotal in understanding the expectations of international buyers and implementing a new revamped compliant packaging and label.
Revamped Brand Identity: A refreshed logo and full suite of brand materials-including brochures, business cards, and updated social media-have given Asilia African Honey a competitive edge in the market.
Shining on the Global Stage
The BEVAC project played a key role in helping Asilia African Honey take part in various trade fairs, both at the national and international levels. Impressively, the brand snagged first and second place at Tanzania’s Annual National Saba Saba Trade Fair in the honey producers’ category. On the global stage, Asilia African Honey had the chance to showcase its products in Nairobi, Kenya, and Germany, which opened valuable networking and business opportunities. One of the most exciting outcomes of this exposure is the birth of a new partnership: during their participation in Germany, Asilia African Honey connected with a foreign investor. This collaboration led to the formation of Fulmar Tanzania Limited ; a joint venture focused on international distribution. With support in the form of technical assistance, capital, technology transfer, and equipment, Fulmar Tanzania is already operational and on track to make its first export in 2026.
Inspiring a Generation
Asilia African Honey serves as an inspiring example for the youth of Tanzania. By showing that self-employment in agribusiness can be both achievable and rewarding, the company motivates more young individuals to explore incredible opportunities within value chains like beekeeping. Their journey highlights the strength of resilience, creativity, and the importance of strategic support.
In their own words, Asilia African Honey shares heartfelt thanks to ITC for its pivotal role in empowering youth-led businesses through skill development and helping them connect with global markets.
